Nancy Anderson of Albany and JJ Jones of Corvallis are the featured artists for August at
Gallery Calapooia.
Nancy has been a member of Gallery Calapooia since 2014 and her work includes
calligraphy as well as collage and cut paper.
For this August featured artist show, Nancy is highlighting her collage and cut paper
creations. The theme is summer in Oregon and her art showcases the beauty of the
flowers of this season and landscapes of the area. The colors are vibrant, bold and crisp.
She also has some smaller matted pieces with hand lettered quotes to inspire and amuse
and a wide selection of handmade cards for all occasions.
When Nancy joined the gallery, her art was centered on calligraphy and words. She
collects inspiring quotes, meaningful phrases and fun words that speak to her heart. These
have been her primary focus but she is increasingly working in layers with cut paper and
collage. Sometimes she adds a layer of lettering but other times she does not.
Nancy paints backgrounds in both watercolors and acrylics. She also paint sheets of paper
for cutting and building layers to create images. She generally doesn’t have a plan when
she works. She just launches into the creative process and plays with art materials.
Sometimes the images are created and the words are then added into the piece. Other
times she will start by lettering a poem or phrase which then suggest what images she
wants to create.
